The Book of Images is one of Rainer Maria Rilke's most important books for understanding the evolution of his work.

A continuous work, it underwent several editions and modifications over time, allowing for the accommodation of the author's new aesthetic thinking and enabling a bridge between his "Impressionism" and the "theory of objects," achieved in New Poems.

Here, we find the early poet (religious motifs), his intermediate phase (poems of archetypal characters), and the mature poet of poetic experimentation.

This edition, translated by Maria Teresa Dias Furtado, also includes a brief preface contextualizing the work.
