Paula Pinto - João Dixo: Exposição Cancelada

This book focuses on the first twenty years of João Dixo’s work (1941–2012). It was in opposition to the persistence of objects and the notion of an objective reality—challenging the meaning of what we see—that João Dixo annulled previously presented objects.

Cancellation became an end in itself. Painting turned into action. Re-presenting the works by altering the nature of their relationship with the viewer transforms both the artistic objects and our understanding of them. Against the established idea of the artwork as an original and unchangeable concept, gestures like these had an irreversible impact on the viewer’s gaze and on the historiography of art.
